Other Information

Hunting Clothing
Remember that New Zealand seasons are opposite to those in the Northern Hemisphere; summer in the USA is winter in New Zealand. Clothing should be for cool to cold conditions, which may include rain and snow especially during May, June and July. Boots must have a good rubber tread sole or deep cleats, be broken in and preferably waterproof. All hunting is done on foot with 4x4 vehicles being used for transport. We also may when necessary use a helicopter to move hunters from one area to another.

Optics
A lot of our hunting is open alpine country where animals can often be seen at long distances. It is important you bring a good set of binoculars for spotting game. It is not necessary to bring a spotting scope as all our guides carry one and also laser range finders when necessary.

Taxidermy
We work in with the leading taxidermists in New Zealand. Expediting and/or mounting of your trophies can be easily arranged. Charges for these services are additional.

Insurance
Clients should ensure that they have current medical and travel insurance including trip cancellation insurance. New Zealand does have a comprehensive public accident and rehabilitation cover which applies to residents and visitors to New Zealand.

Firearms
There is no difficulty in bringing conventional sporting rifles into New Zealand. Please note that handguns and military style firearms can not be brought into the country for hunting purposes. A firearms License and Import Permit are available at the port of entry into the country. Documentation can be obtained from us prior to your hunt regarding the importation of your firearms into New Zealand. Currently the Government charge for the import permit and Firearms license is NZ$25. At your first point of entry into New Zealand (Auckland or Christchurch airports) advise customs that you have a firearm(s) and they will direct you to the Airport Police.

Most shots are between 100-300 yards on big game so 7mmMags to .300 Mags are ideal. We do have rifles, shotguns and .22 rifles available for your use if you don’t want to bring your own firearms.
