About Us

KIWI Safaris New Zealand is a small family business based in the beautiful city of Christchurch, in the South Island of New Zealand.

Mike Freeman’s great love of hunting over the previous twenty years saw him become an Outfitter in 1988. Being an avid trophy hunter, he has built up an excellent knowledge of all game species found in throughout the South Pacific. Mike has also hunted overseas with some of the best outfitters in Australia, New Caledonia, Mongolia, Canada and the United States.

He is a foundation member of the New Zealand Chapter of Safari Club International, an official SCI scorer and is also a member of the New Zealand Professional Hunting Guides Association. Mike is also a member of a number of SCI chapters in the United States as well as the Houston Safari Club. His other interests include wild animal photography, music and like all New Zealanders, watching our national sport, rugby union.

Mike is responsible for the marketing, promotion and organisation of all hunts performed by Kiwi Safaris New Zealand. Ruth also works full-time for the business at their Christchurch office and handles all the administration for Kiwi Safaris. Mike and Ruth have two adult children, Daniel who works in the travel industry and Debbi who has a three year old son Mitchell and has made his grandparents life so much more fulfilling since his arrival.

In January 2004 Mike was honoured by Safari Club International at the Reno Convention when he was awarded the runner up award for the International Professional Hunter of the Year for 2004.
